Lake Doberdò reserve’s main entrance and visitor centre are in the village of Doberdò del Lago. The centre offers great views over the lake and is easy to reach from the village: just follow the signs.Doberdò is the only lake that is still temporary; it is well worth seeing. The surrounding woodland is typical of the karst landscape, with hornbeam, downy oak, and a wide variety of wildlife: the reserve’s symbol is the hedgehog, but there are also rare mammals, like jackals and wildcats, as many as 6 species of woodpecker, and the olm, a rare amphibian living in the underground watercourses. The Gradina visitor centre has a natural-history museum with a series of displays telling the story of the karst through important themes such as flora, fauna, culture and history. If you have time for just one thing, make it the section on the karst lakes and underground waters. For younger people there is also the play climbing, climbing with mountain guides proposal to all kids from 5 years.
