Bishop's palace

The remains uncovered in the “Violin barn” area belong to the second phase of the bishop’s residence, created around the turn of the 4th and 5th centuries on top of earlier structures. It comprised a long, narrow room that extended southwards under the modern buildings. The mosaic flooring is made of squares surrounded by parallelograms, with a double Solomon’s knot in the corners. Three spaces opened out to the north; they can now be seen inside the “barn”, one with mosaics made of two-colour tesserae. The long room was flanked by a stone pavement, part of an outdoor space, which divided this wing of the palace from the western one.
